Let’s take a closer look at what porcelain veneers are so you can decide if they would be right for you. Porcelain veneers are a popular cosmetic dentistry treatment that can help patients gain a new smile and confidence. If you’re looking for a way to improve the appearance of your teeth, porcelain veneers may be the perfect solution.

Porcelain veneers are thin shells made from medical-grade ceramic bonded to the front of your teeth using specialized dental cement. This process helps give them a natural appearance while still being extremely durable and long-lasting. Veneers can also be designed to match the color, shape, size, and length of your existing teeth to blend in seamlessly with your natural smile or if you are looking to change one or more of the previously listed items (shape, size length) that can be achieved as well.

Compared to full crowns, veneers provide a more conservative treatment option because less tooth structure needs to be removed.  Additionally, veneers will not stain, so they are color stable. If you don’t like the color of your existing teeth, tooth whitening may be indicated before starting with veneers.

Because the material used for these veneers is highly resistant to staining, you won’t have to worry about discoloration of the veneers over time.

The Porcelain Veneer Process

Rankin & Mingle Dentistry uses only the highest quality materials for our porcelain veneer treatments. Dr. Michael Mingle, Dr. Jennifer Rankin, and their team will work closely with you during each step to ensure everything is done correctly and safely.

The procedure typically takes two visits; during the first visit, we will evaluate whether or not you have sufficient enamel thickness for successful bonding with no further preparation required or if any additional steps need to be taken before proceeding with placement. For example, we may need to remove some enamel from affected areas or reshape certain areas for better fit and esthetics before bonding occurs.

Once your teeth are ready, we’ll take digital impressions (not that gooey stuff from the past) to help us craft veneers to match your smile and the natural look of your teeth. We will discuss any concerns or questions you may have before creating custom molds that perfectly fit your mouth shape and size.

Then during the second visit, after completing the preparatory steps, we will bond your newly crafted porcelain veneer onto each tooth requiring treatment. We will use strong dental cement before polishing off any excess material from around them until they look completely natural!
